CRISPIN HUGHES – BACKDOOR

The first time i ever met Crispin was on my first trip for Riptide, the plan was to meet up with Crispin, Raffi Meyer and Adiv (his brother) in sydney then head up to foster to shoot with Tim Jones for an all DK trip. I got down to sydney and met up with Crispin at his Avalon apartment, i ended up spending a week there with him waiting for some swell, i was star stuck as Crispin was all over every cover of Riptide, had a pile of boards that went to the roof and also had these 2 huge books full of all his coverage, i was loving it, now there are 2 things ill never forget from staying with Crispin, No1 is that Backdoor carve was framed on his wall, it was his favourite shot ever, Crispin is all about rail surfing, and this shot sums him up, No2 was the time he pulled out about 6 perfect boards and cut them in half with a saw so they would fit in the bin!!! the shape wasn’t right apparently?? here i was at the time with one old board that i bought off Crawley and this guy is literally throwing them away!

I had this shot in a frame on my wall as well……ex-wife made me unload it.

One of the best DK shots I have ever seen……total inspiration!
